Departments
The Adult Services Department is the heart of each location of the Elyria Public Library System.
Thousands of questions are answered annually by phone and in the library by the Adult Services staff. They can assist in selecting fiction to read and reserve materials not presently available for loan. Need help in finding information about subjects A to Z? This department has the answers. In addition to standard reference tools, the Central library owns special collections on local, national and worldwide businesses. Local genealogy and Elyria history information are also available in the Ohio Room. Phone, email or stop in at every EPLS location.
The AV departments at each EPLS location offer fiction and non-fiction videos—VHS or DVD format—plus music CDs from alternative to country, and gospel to movie soundtracks. In addition we have fiction and non-fiction books on tape or CD. The AV Librarians can help you locate AV materials for fun, entertainment or education. The Central Library’s AV department offers an extensive foreign film collection to choose from and the West River Library offers free weekly movies for family and adult entertainment. The Central Library and the West River Library have Young Adult Librarians to serve teens from grades seventh through twelfth. The YA collection features books and resources aimed directly at current trends made for this ever-increasing audience. In addition, a Teen Advisory Board participates in designing activities and programs for teens.
Story Times just aren't just stories any longer—finger plays, songs, crafts, refreshments and always fun. The emphasis here is preparing for literacy—the resources, the activities, the materials—all prepared by our librarians to get kids excited about learning and reading. There’s almost always something going on here!
