Pages from your Librarian

Early Literacy is what children know about reading and writing before they actually read or write. It includes learning to love books, exploring new words, telling stories, hearing sounds such as rhymes and alliteration, knowing that words are important (especially their name), and beginning to be aware of the alphabet. These skills are built through talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. You can help your child with early literacy by introducing them to Elyria Public Library’s story times! Choose from the following times and locations.

Early Literacy

Our children's rooms are full of wonderous adventures waiting to be explored by your little ones. We want to help build the skills your child needs to be ready for school by working with them to develop early literacy and learning skills, such as talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing.

Homework Help

Stop in for a quiet area and large tables to get your homework completed. Use our online research tools.

Cards & Computers

The children's Room computers are just for kids! You'll need a student ID or library card to sign on. Don't have a library card? We have a Children's 3 for ME card for kids under 12.
