Purpose:When loaned materials are lost, the patron is assessed for the replacement of the materials
Cost of Replacement:There are three elements to the lost item charges:
- The replacement cost of the lost item.
- $5.00 processing fee for each lost item.
- The overdue fine – The fine accrues up to the date when the item is paid for, until an agreement on a payment plan is reached, the item is declared lost, or until the maximum fine of $10.00 per item is reached.
Replacement Cost of the Lost Item: Approved sources will be used to determine the current replacement cost
of the item.
If a title is not found or is out of print, the patron will be charged according to the “Price List”on file in the Director’s office.
If a patron insists on replacing a lost item with another item, they may do so under these conditions:
- The item must be new.
- The title, author, and ISBN number must be the same as the item being replaced. The item must be identical to the item being replaced and approved by the Department Manager.
- If approved by the Library, mass market paperbacks may be replaced with any mass market paperback.
- The processing fee and any fine will still be charged.
- The patron will be informed that a refund cannot be made if the lost item is found after the library has accepted a replacement item.

Receipt: When a patron pays for a lost item, the computer will generate a printed receipt. The patron will be given the receipt and informed that they will need to show the receipt should they find the item within sixty (60) days and wish a refund.
Refunds: The patron will be informed upon payment for the item that if the item is subsequently found and returned within sixty (60) days from payment, along with the receipt, the replacement cost of the item will be refunded. No refund of the fine or processing fee will be given.
